House GOP Faults Hillary Clinton For Benghazi Security

The House GOP faulted former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton for the deadly terrorist attack at the US Consulate in Benghazi, Libya. The attack, which happened on September 11, 2012, killed four Americans, including US Ambassador Chris Stevens. The latest report on the attack by Republicans implies that Clinton misled lawmakers about her role in the incident. Clinton allegedly drew down security assets in the country , despite threats of violence. The report, which is 43 pages long, also accused President Barack Obama of failing to anticipate violence against Americans could happen on the anniversary of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks. The report was produced by Republican staff from the House committees on Armed Services, Foreign Affairs, the Judiciary, Oversight and Government Reform, and Intelligence. In it, the representatives accuse the Obama administration of attempting to cover up the reality of the Benghazi attack .The White House commented on the report, explainin...

Libyan military guards patrol the U.S. compound in Benghazi, Libya. (Mohammad Hannon/AP) Seven months after the deadly terrorist attack on the U.S. compound in Benghazi, Libya, House Republicans released a new report on Tuesday that implies then-Secretary of State Hillary Clinton misled lawmakers about her role in drawing down security assets in the war-torn country. The 43-page report also accuses President Barack Obama of failing to anticipate violence against Americans on the anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks. The assault on the facility, carried out by as-yet unidentified assailants, claimed the lives of U.S. Ambassador Chris Stevens and three other Americans. It also sparked a firestorm of political controversy in the United States because top Obama aides linked itwronglyto anger in the Muslim world at an Internet video ridiculing Islam. Republican staff from the House committees on Armed Services, Foreign Affairs, the Judiciary, Oversight and Government Reform, and Inte...

Hillary Clinton Is Still Popular, More So Than Obama, Biden

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Though currently she is -- at least temporarily -- out of political life, former U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton continues to enjoy a strong favorability rating, now 64%. Americans view Clinton more favorably than the president and vice president, as well as Clinton's successor, Secretary of State John Kerry. The April 11-14 survey predates the April 15 bombings near the finish line of the Boston Marathon that killed three people and injured more than 180. It's not clear what impact, if any, that event and the ensuing manhunt that shut down Boston and nearby communities will have on the favorability ratings of the president or any other administration figures. President Barack Obama's approval rating climbed to 50% in Gallup Daily tracking last week -- higher than it has been since late February. His approval rating Tuesday, April 23, is 51%. These results also precede the Senate's failure to pass a gun control bill that would have extended...

Could Hillary Clinton Be Americas Thatcher?

Who thought that in stuffy old England in the 1980s a woman could act like a man and thrive, but here in the New World, Hillary Clinton still has to watch her ps and qs in 2013? Margaret Thatcher didnt change a hair, hedge a bet or trim a sail. She never had to be told to lean in because she never leaned back. She was certain, opinionated and strident to the point of, yes, shrillness. Listen to her on gay rights: Its fingernails on a chalkboard. In the U.S., three decades after Thatcher, a woman still has to back into her positions. Watch Hillary come out for same- sex marriage in a well-rehearsed video -- after it was entirely safe. (Every Democratic senator but three politically vulnerable residents of red states has done so.) After leaving her post as secretary of state, she lay low, got some rest and cleaned out her closets . When she re-emerged, she did so at soft-focus womens events and at her husbands philanthropy, the Clinton Global Initiative . If there is one thing Clint...

Hillary Clinton and the Aug. 16 cable on Benghazi security

(Cliff Owen/AP) Where was Hillary Clinton in all of this? I mean the fact that she was unaware that her own ambassador was saying that the consulate couldnt withstand a coordinated attack, that was never answered to a satisfactory answer. Sen. Kelly Ayotte (R-N.H.), on Fox and Friends, April 9, 2013 The controversy continues over the deaths last year of U.S. Ambassador Christopher Stevens and three other Americans in an attack on a U.S. facility (a special mission, not technically a consulate) in Benghazi, Libya. Certainly there are outstanding questions, and Ayotte is among the lawmakers pushing for the establishment of a special investigative committee. We take no position on that idea, but we were curious about her statement concerning former secretary of state Hillary Rodham Clinton, who by all accounts would be considered the top Democrat in the 2016 presidential race if she decided to run. What is Ayotte talking about? Essentially, its a question of bureaucratic response and in...

Presidential Tokenism

The last few weeks have seen a full-court press by MSNBC and other Democratic media organs to either promote Hillary Clinton as the party's 2016 standard bearer or run her up the flagpole to see if anybody salutes. Another Clinton? Sounds boring. But proto-pro-Hillary forces assure us that promoting her to First-Ever Female President is an inherently exciting prospect, a history-making thrillapalooza that would smash glass ceilings, change everything in Washington, D.C., and remove waxy buildup. "The enthusiasm and hunger for a Hillary Clinton presidency is unlike anything I've ever seen," enthuses strategist-pundit James Carville, who just slapped together a Hillary PAC to raise cash for 2016. I don't know about you, but the fact that the Female One owes her political career to having been married to a president doesn't strike me as a glorious victory for feminism. "[Clinton] is an embodiment of baby-boom second-wave feminists who see her elevation to th...
