House GOP Faults Hillary Clinton For Benghazi Security

The House GOP faulted former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton for the deadly terrorist attack at the US Consulate in Benghazi, Libya. The attack, which happened on September 11, 2012, killed four Americans, including US Ambassador Chris Stevens. The latest report on the attack by Republicans implies that Clinton misled lawmakers about her role in the incident. Clinton allegedly drew down security assets in the country , despite threats of violence. The report, which is 43 pages long, also accused President Barack Obama of failing to anticipate violence against Americans could happen on the anniversary of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks. The report was produced by Republican staff from the House committees on Armed Services, Foreign Affairs, the Judiciary, Oversight and Government Reform, and Intelligence. In it, the representatives accuse the Obama administration of attempting to cover up the reality of the Benghazi attack .The White House commented on the report, explainin...

House GOP report slams Hillary Clinton, Barack Obama on Benghazi

Libyan military guards patrol the U.S. compound in Benghazi, Libya. (Mohammad Hannon/AP) Seven months after the deadly terrorist attack on the U.S. compound in Benghazi, Libya, House Republicans released a new report on Tuesday that implies then-Secretary of State Hillary Clinton misled lawmakers about her role in drawing down security assets in the war-torn country. The 43-page report also accuses President Barack Obama of failing to anticipate violence against Americans on the anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks. The assault on the facility, carried out by as-yet unidentified assailants, claimed the lives of U.S. Ambassador Chris Stevens and three other Americans. It also sparked a firestorm of political controversy in the United States because top Obama aides linked itwronglyto anger in the Muslim world at an Internet video ridiculing Islam. Hillary Clinton Is Still Popular, More So Than Obama, Biden

Image
WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Though currently she is -- at least temporarily -- out of political life, former U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton continues to enjoy a strong favorability rating, now 64%. Americans view Clinton more favorably than the president and vice president, as well as Clinton's successor, Secretary of State John Kerry. The April 11-14 survey predates the April 15 bombings near the finish line of the Boston Marathon that killed three people and injured more than 180. It's not clear what impact, if any, that event and the ensuing manhunt that shut down Boston and nearby communities will have on the favorability ratings of the president or any other administration figures. President Barack Obama's approval rating climbed to 50% in Gallup Daily tracking last week -- higher than it has been since late February. His approval rating Tuesday, April 23, is 51%. These results also precede the Senate's failure to pass a gun control bill that would have extended...

Could Hillary Clinton Be Americas Thatcher?

Image
Who thought that in stuffy old England in the 1980s a woman could act like a man and thrive, but here in the New World, Hillary Clinton still has to watch her ps and qs in 2013? Margaret Thatcher didnt change a hair, hedge a bet or trim a sail. She never had to be told to lean in because she never leaned back. She was certain, opinionated and strident to the point of, yes, shrillness. Listen to her on gay rights: Its fingernails on a chalkboard. In the U.S., three decades after Thatcher, a woman still has to back into her positions. Watch Hillary come out for same- sex marriage in a well-rehearsed video -- after it was entirely safe. (Every Democratic senator but three politically vulnerable residents of red states has done so.) After leaving her post as secretary of state, she lay low, got some rest and cleaned out her closets . When she re-emerged, she did so at soft-focus womens events and at her husbands philanthropy, the Clinton Global Initiative . If there is one thing Clint...

Hillary Clinton and the Aug. 16 cable on Benghazi security

Image
(Cliff Owen/AP) Where was Hillary Clinton in all of this? I mean the fact that she was unaware that her own ambassador was saying that the consulate couldnt withstand a coordinated attack, that was never answered to a satisfactory answer. Sen. Kelly Ayotte (R-N.H.), on Fox and Friends, April 9, 2013 The controversy continues over the deaths last year of U.S. Ambassador Christopher Stevens and three other Americans in an attack on a U.S. facility (a special mission, not technically a consulate) in Benghazi, Libya. Certainly there are outstanding questions, and Ayotte is among the lawmakers pushing for the establishment of a special investigative committee. We take no position on that idea, but we were curious about her statement concerning former secretary of state Hillary Rodham Clinton, who by all accounts would be considered the top Democrat in the 2016 presidential race if she decided to run. What is Ayotte talking about? Essentially, its a question of bureaucratic response and in...

Presidential Tokenism

The last few weeks have seen a full-court press by MSNBC and other Democratic media organs to either promote Hillary Clinton as the party's 2016 standard bearer or run her up the flagpole to see if anybody salutes. Another Clinton? Sounds boring. But proto-pro-Hillary forces assure us that promoting her to First-Ever Female President is an inherently exciting prospect, a history-making thrillapalooza that would smash glass ceilings, change everything in Washington, D.C., and remove waxy buildup. "The enthusiasm and hunger for a Hillary Clinton presidency is unlike anything I've ever seen," enthuses strategist-pundit James Carville, who just slapped together a Hillary PAC to raise cash for 2016. I don't know about you, but the fact that the Female One owes her political career to having been married to a president doesn't strike me as a glorious victory for feminism. "[Clinton] is an embodiment of baby-boom second-wave feminists who see her elevation to th...

Obama addresses 2016, Hillary Clinton

>> last thing, i know you're not endorsing but do you personally hope that hillary clinton runs in 2016 ? >> you know, i think we're very far away from that, but i have said before and i'll say again i think she was an extraordinary secretary of state and she became not only a great partner for me in foreign policy but a good friend. >> do you miss her around here? >> i do. she's earned her rest and i know that whatever she does, she's going to be able to continue to be a leader and incredibly positive force for the causes i care about and that she cares about, all

Other Views: The Hillary Clinton standard

The Hillary Clinton standard When Ambassador Chris Stevens was killed by Libyan terrorists in Benghazi last September, it had been 33 years since an American diplomat had been killed in the line of duty. But it took just seven months for yet another American envoy to die violently. Her name was Anne Smedinghoff. A 25-year-old Foreign Service officer at the US Embassy in Kabul, she was one of the five Americans killed this month by a terrorist bomb as they were delivering donated textbooks to Afghan children. The other Americans killed with her were a Defense Department translator and three US soldiers. Perhaps Smedinghoffs death couldnt have been prevented no matter how tight the security or well-planned the movements of US personnel. Still, it does suggest an answer to then-Secretary of State Hillary Clintons irritated response when asked whether the Benghazi attack was the work of a spontaneous mob: What difference, at this point, does it make? It makes a difference because the good ...

Bill Maher advises Hillary Clinton: Be more like Jimmy Carter

Is that wrong? Late-night comedian Bill Maher has an idea on how Hillary Rodham Clinton can win a presidential bid in 2016: She needs to be more like Jimmy Carter . America needs to start defining peace as strength. Do you know who the role model for every president should be? Jimmy Carter , the HBO host proposed Friday night. Because he is the one out of all of them who figured out how to sit in office for four years and never fire a shot. And every presidents negative example should be Dick Cheney , who even shot his friends in the face. So Hillary Clinton, I hope youre listening to this, he continued. And I hope ! you remem! ber that the reason you lost your primary battle in 2008 was because you voted for the ...

Op-ed: The Clintons and Marriage

Image
Lane Hudson on Bill and Hillary Clinton's long, complicated journey with marriage equality. Bill and Hillary Clinton have a colorful history on the marriage issue. Before gay marriage ever landed on their doorstep, their own marriage was the constant focus of conservative opponents. But their marriage endures in spite of many challenges, some of which played out very publicly. Their commitment to marriage is something many top conservatives cannot claim. Their marriage has also produced a daughter that has gone on to become an admired young woman who is slowly embracing the Clinton legacy of public service. In Chelsea Clintons first public interview with Vogue, she and others discuss in detail the dynamic and close relationship that exists among the Clinton triumvirate. Chelsea is a key part of her parents long slog on gay marriage. Bringing her gay friends to Thanksgiving dinner in Chappaqua helped bring the former President along. Chelsea commented in the Vogue interview, Those...

For Democrats in 2016, it's all about Hillary Clinton so far

WASHINGTON It sounds like a bad joke from an old comedy routine. Question: How do you take on Hillary Rodham Clinton for the Democratic presidential nomination? Answer: Very carefully. Clinton is almost universally popular among Democrats as they look ahead to the 2016 race, with memories of her strong 2008 campaign enhanced by her work as secretary of State. If she runs again, she'll have the most money in the bank, an experienced organization at her back and the emotional advantage of trying to finally achieve what many voters consider a long-overdue goal: the election of the first female president. "Here's a woman who's been working 60-70 hours a week for the last four years, on some of the most difficult, complicated challenges we've had," said Colorado Gov. John Hickenlooper , often talked about as a 2016 Democratic contender himself, despite his denials of interest. "I think it would be very difficult to attack her." At this stage, it isn...

Marco Rubio of Florida and Rand Paul of Kentucky both potential presidential candidates are closely matched in popularity. Speculation Swirls Will Hillary Clinton Run for President in 2016?

WASHINGTON, April 10 (By Maria Young for RIA Novosti)- US President Barack Obama has barely scratched the surface of his second term in office, a scant 79 days, and already, the finicky American public is practically salivating over speculation that former first lady, US senator, and Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton, will try to succeed him in 2016. Do I think she will run? Yes I do Has there ever been a male candidate who was the odds-on favorite to be president and backed away? No, and so why should she be any different? said Professor Chris Arterton, dean of the Graduate School of Political Management at George Washington University, in an interview with RIA Novosti. The historic nature of a Hillary presidency is kind of a completion of the transformation that began with Obama, the first African-American president, the first woman president, and a lot of people in this country are eager for that to happen, he added. Ready for Hillary (RFH), a super-PAC (political action com...
