Poll: Hillary Clinton would beat Scott Walker and Paul Ryan for prez on their home turf

It's been less than four months since the 2012 presidential election, which of course means it's long past time for politicos to start obsessing about the 2016 election. In that vein, the Democratic-leaning film Public Policy Polling firm, which polled Wisconsinites last week on Russ Feingold's favorability ratings , also asked some questions in that poll about hypothetical matchups for the presidential race. And the results might surprise some Wisconsin Republicans expecting some rising GOP stars to get a home-state bounce. The poll says that Hillary Clinton would handily beat both Gov. Scott Walker and U.S. Rep. Paul Ryan in Wisconsin in a general election. Clinton would beat Ryan by a 51-43 margin and thump Walker by a 54-41 margin, according to the poll. She claims double-digit leads against both Republicans with voters identifying themselves as independents. Not surprisingly given those numbers, Clinton is the candidate that half of polled Wisconsin Democrats most want...

Hillary watches from the wings

Image
As US Secretary of State John Kerry makes his way through Europe and the Middle East, you wonder what his predecessor is thinking. In fact, Hillary Clinton is likely harboring greater ambitions, says Volker Depkat. Will she do it? Will Hillary Clinton run for president in 2016? This question was in the room before President Barack Obama had spoken the last words of his oath of office on January 20. Should she do it, it would hardly come as a surprise. Hillary Clinton's marriage with Bill is, whatever else it may be, a political partnership unseen since the days of Franklin D. and Eleanor Roosevelt. In contrast to the Roosevelts, however, career-promotion in the case of the Clintons works both ways: In the 1980/90s they teamed up to make Bill president, and once in the White House, Hillary Clinton was one of the politically most active First Ladies ever. She insisted on having her own office in the West Wing of the White House, instead of operating from the building's East Wing,...

Is Hillary Clinton too old to run for president, or is that just sexist and ageist?

Image
She still hasnt said whether she will seek the Democratic nomination in the next U.S. presidential election, but Hillary Clinton is already under the microscope over about how old she would be when she hypothetically took office. The former secretary of state (2009-2013), U.S. senator (2001-2009) and First Lady (1993-2001) has nowhere else to go in American politics other than to be the first woman to run for president under the banner of one of the two major parties . She lost that chance to President Barack Obama when he won the Democratic nomination in 2008 and, even though she continues to play coy, as any politician would at this point, its highly conceivable that she will take one more stab at it in November 2016, when she will be 69. (Her birthday is in October.) More Related to this Story Hillary Clintons newest title? Most admired woman in the world Hillary Clinton: On top of the world and 'running it'. But what's next? Va. men plead guilty in campaign money case

ALEXANDRIA, Va. (AP) -- A Virginia man pleaded guilty Tuesday to using his company to illegally funnel nearly $200,000 to Hillary Clinton 's political campaigns. There are no allegations Clinton acted improperly. William P. Danielczyk Jr. , 51, of Oakton, struck a plea deal Tuesday in federal court in Alexandria to a single count of making contributions in the names of others. Danielczyk (pronounced DANN'-yuhl-chek) faces up to five years in prison at sentencing. A trial had been scheduled to begin Tuesday, but jury selection was delayed as prosecutors and defense attorneys engaged in last-minute plea negotiations. Eugene Biagi an officer in Danielczyk's company, Galen Capital Group also pleaded guilty Tuesday to a related charge of making illegal corporate contributions. Under the terms of the deal, prosecutors will recommend Biagi, 78, also of Oakton, serve no jail time. While the judge is free to impose a jail term on Biagi at sentencing, it is unlikely he would do ...

No, Hillary Clinton is not too old to be president

Just in time for the most formidable female candidate in American history to run for president, its becoming conventional wisdom: The White House is no place for a senior citizen! Sure, we lived through eight years of Ronald Reagan and four years of his successor George H.W. Bush, who was 68 when he left office. But at 65, Hillary Clinton faces growing questions about whether shes too old to run in 2016. In December, Barbara Walters asked Clinton if her age was a concern. (She answered no.) Last month, after Clintons concussion scare, the Chicago Tribunes Meghan Daum explained that while more rest might result in Clinton looking less jowly, she cannot be presumed to maintain her past and current energy levels into her 70s. Daum advised Clinton supporters to admit the devastating truth: 2008 was their one and only chance, and they missed it. The latest pundit to suggest Clintons age is a serious problem is my friend David Corn of Mother Jones. Im not convinced yet that Hillary is going...

Clinton aide returns to Morgan Stanley

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - U.S. investment bank Morgan Stanley ( MS ) has rehired Tom Nides to a senior position after he served as deputy to U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton for two years. Nides, who previously worked for Morgan Stanley from 2005 to 2010, will work with clients and management as vice chairman and report directly to Chief Executive Officer James Gorman, the bank said in a press release. Nides rejoins Morgan Stanley at a time when it is trying to boost returns and Wall Street must implement a raft of new rules to avoid a repeat of the devastating financial crisis. While at the State Department Nides represented the United States abroad as deputy secretary of state and was responsible for management and resources at the department. His return to Morgan Stanley is another instance of Washington's "revolving door" in which people routinely swap jobs between the government and the private sector, something critics say can craft overly cozy relations between...

Clinton Backers Rejected by High Court on Campaign Charge

The U.S. Supreme Court turned away an appeal by two men accused of illegally channeling more than $150,000 in corporate money to Hillary Clintons 2008 presidential campaign. William P. Danielczyk Jr. and Eugene R. Biagi argued unsuccessfully that part of their indictment violated the constitutional free-speech guarantee and a 2010 Supreme Court decision that let corporations spend unlimited sums on elections. In rejecting the appeal today without comment, the high court declined a chance to expand the 2010 ruling, Citizens United v. Federal Election Commission, and allow direct corporate contributions to political candidates. The court said last week it will consider a different campaign-finance issue during the nine-month term that starts in October. In that case, Republicans are challenging federal limits on the total amount of money individuals can give to candidates, political parties and political committees every two years. Danielczyk and Biagi are accused of using funds from Gal...

Hillary Clinton becomes breadwinner in the Clinton household

CHAPPAQUA, NY Ladies, if youre still thinking that glass ceiling is whats holding you back, maybe its time to bust through it Hillary style. See the former first lady and Secretary of State is now getting paid even more than her husband, former U.S. President Bill Clinton. Last year, Barbara Walters asked her why she was stepping down from Obamas cabinet. Hillary said, I wanted to take some time and just really collect myself. Well, collect herself and 200,000 bucks. Thats how much shell charge on the lecture circuit for a one-to-two-hour speech. Yikes! Thats even more than she made in a year as secretary of state. And poor Bill his average lecture brings in just $189,000. So why is Hillary commanding so much more than Bill? Well, maybe she has more to talk about. Theres Bills presidency, Monica Lewinsky (good luck getting her to open up about that one!), working under President Obama, traveling the world to 112 countries, brokering peace and preaching womens rights and now possibly c...

Hillary Clinton Makes $37,948 More Per Speech Than Post-President Bill Clinton

For ex-governmentofficials, speaking fees serve as a crude but still revealing measurement of their historical importance. By that count, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton is already outdoing her husband, former President Bill Clinton . On Wednesday Rosie Gray at BuzzFeed reported that Hillary's agency, Harry Walker , is requesting a fee of more than $200,000 to have her speak at conferences, colleges, and other kinds of events. (Thankfully the fee will be waived for "for causes [she] champions.")Now, that's a staggering amount for anyone to pull. But compared to her husband who has given nearly 500 speeches since he left office in 2001, or approximately 3.5 speeches a month it's even more remarkable. How much more remarkable, though? Now that she's stepped down from her post at D.C., Hillary Clinton is being represented by the Harry Walker Agency -- a public speaking booking company -- and is poised to make big bucks on the speech circuit the could rival what her husband brings in. The agency, which also represents Bill Clinton, Dick Cheney and Kofi Annan, didn't return calls for comment about their deal, but political experts say possible presidential candidate could demand quite a high fee. "I know Herman Cain can make close to $50,000 for speeches. Hillary Clinton can definitely make close to $250,000," said Christina Greer, an assistant professor of political science at Fordham University. Hillary Clinton to make her millions on the speaking circuit

She is under intense pressure from Democratic allies to run for the party's presidential nomination in 2016, having been defeated by Mr Obama in a hard-fought contest in 2008. Having spent four years on a gruelling schedule, which included almost 90 full days on flights, she has repeatedly brushed off suggestions that she is already hatching plans for one last political campaign. Yet speculation has continued to mount, amid the disclosure that Mr Obama's political operation has paid off Mrs Clinton's remaining quarter-million-dollar debt from 2008. A group of supporters has founded "Ready for Hillary", a fundraising group poised to assist any official campaign. She and Mr Clinton, who have homes in Washington and Chappaqua, New York, are believed to be seeking a summer property in The Hamptons, the exclusive coastal community outside New York City. Earnings from her new job, in which she is also expected to give speeches for free to assist charities, may help cove...

He added that if theres anyone who knows how to handle a guy who cant keep his hands to himself its her, Politico reports. According to the report, Pope Benedict XVI announced his resignation earlier this week, launching speculation for who his successor will be. Earlier in the programme Maher said that it was not Catholics fault for losing faith in the Church because it is hostile to women. He said that no one can fault you for losing faith in an organization that wont even allow women as priests because the reasoning goes Jesus didnt have any female apostles. Maher mused that if not Hillary, Oprah would be the next right candidate f...
