Hillary Clinton likes 'Texts from Hillary' parody site
"Texts from Hillary," a site that parodies Hillary Clinton's texting, has among its fans the secretary of state herself.
Several media sites reported that Clinton invited creators Stacy Lambe and Adam Smith to the State Department on Tuesday. She took a photo with the creators, and also shared a signed copy of her own submission to the site.
The "Texts from Hillary" website features photos from Reuters photographer Kevin Lamarque and TIME photographer Diana Walker. Lambe and Smith add humorous captions and post them to a Tumblr blog.
While only about a week old, Politico reported that the blog has already gone viral.
Smith, who along with Lambe is a Washington, D.C.-based communications professional, told Politico that he was "still in shock" about getting the invitation.
"She came out, she was all smiles, told us how much she likes the site and that people have been telling her all about it," he said. "She just thinks it's great."
Lambe told The Huffington Post that Clinton was generous to spend some time with them.
"Everybody was really nice and really excited about what's happened over the past few days," he said. "Of course, Hillary Clinton thought it was hilarious and had a good laugh and was very nice and welcome."
Clinton's submission included photos of Smith and Lambe, which led Smith to joke with Politico that he has to "add a little more privacy and security on Facebook."
She also posed for a photo with the creators, wearing sunglasses similar to pair she wears in the "Texts" posts.
Turns out the creators want to go out on top and have closed the website. Lam! be and S mith posted this on their site Wednesday afternoon .
It's been an overwhelmingand hilariousweek for us here at Texts from Hillary (TFH). What started as a joke at the bar between two friends turned into a national conversation about Secretary Clinton and went as far as talks about 2016.
After a week that included 32 posts, 83,000 shares on Facebook, 8,400 Twitter followers, over 45K Tumblr followers, news stories around the world, Renee Montagne from Morning Edition saying "ROFL," a Maureen Dowd column, and a tweet from ?uest Love, we think its time to stop while we are ahead.
As far as memes go it has gone as far as it can go. Is it really possible to top a submission from the Secretary herself? No. But then when you get to text with her in real life its just over. At least for us. But we have no doubt it will live on with all of you on the Internet.
The site will stay up but we wont be posting anything new here. You can follow us on Twitter ( @ASmith83 , @Sllambe ) and Tumblr (Stacy at ImWithKanye and Adams work account, Public Campaign Action Fund ).
Thanks for all the LOLz. We truly appreciate all the support.
It turns out that memes really do come true.
